Necessary* - all depends on the reason you are in this life. All people have come to this life to have their own unique journey hence why it is weird that people want (greed from human experience) so many things without realizing their true needs (a part of your reason for having this human experience). This not to say that experiencing greed and potentially learning from it can't be one of your much needed experience.
